Oh dearest readers, the poster wasn’t the end of the BTS Arctic Blast shenanigans. What would the holidays be without an edible Arctic Blast poster made from gingerbread and a metric ton of sugar?
I spent two evenings slaving over a pile of sugar cubes and a hot stove to bring you this masterpiece.
Honestly making the letters for BTSN4T out of sugar cubes was the hardest part of the entire project. I printed out some transparencies with the poster on them so I had a surface I could work on and the sugar wouldn’t stick. What I learned was two fold. Sandpaper is your friend and B’s are harder than S’s. Go figure.
Once I had the sugar cubes sorted it was on to gingerbread surfaces. I didn’t want a boring flat piece of gingerbread so I concocted a construction that would support the giant flat surface and angle it up. So I made 4 wedge pieces and a backing for support. This worked perfectly!
The gingerbread cooled very quickly and I had no problems putting the piece together. For the blue and white portions I used sugar cubes for the lettering and white icing for the snow and sun. For the black I used licorice nibs and sprinkled some regular old sugar on the snow so it sparkled a bit just like snow would. I’m very pleased with how it all turned out.
